Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on Electrical Technician to support our monitoring system projects. The role involves physical site work (mounting sensors, cabling) as well as the technical configuration of data loggers and controllers. The candidate will work at office and project sites to ensure equipment is prewired, pre-configured, installed, connected, and transmitting data correctly.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Installation & Cabling

  2. Perform on-site installation of monitoring instruments (e.g., water level sensors, piezometers, flow meters) and environmental sensors.

  3. Mount equipment enclosures, solar panel kits, and trunking/conduits according to site requirements.

  4. Lay signal and power cables and perform termination into control panels/junction boxes.

  5. Device Configuration & Setup (Technical Works)

  6. Data Logger Setup: Connect laptops to Campbell Scientific (CR series) and other data loggers to upload configuration files and set site-specific parameters (e.g., sampling intervals, sensor IDs).

  7. Controller Deployment: Flash operating system images and load setup files onto Raspberry Pi (RPI) units for field deployment.

  8. Connectivity: Configure IP addresses and modems to ensure devices can transmit data to the central server.

  9. Testing, Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  10. Conduct function tests post-installation to verify sensor readings and data transmission.

  11. Perform scheduled maintenance visits to clean sensors, check battery health, and tighten electrical connections.

  12. Troubleshoot basic site issues (e.g., restarting hung devices, replacing blown fuses, swapping out faulty SD cards or sensor heads).

  13. Safety & Reporting

  14. Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with WSH (Workplace Safety and Health) regulations.

  15. Update service logs and report site progress to the Project Engineer.

Job Requirements

Education: Diploma or Nitec/Higher Nitec in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or Electronics.

Experience:

Experience with instrumentation or data loggers is a strong advantage.

Technical Skills:

Proficient with hand tools (drills, multimeters, crimpers).

Computer Literate: Comfortable connecting laptops to equipment and using configuration software

Note: No coding development experience required, but must be able to follow technical instructions to load programs.

Other Requirements:

Physically fit to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Valid Class 3 Driving License is an advantage.
