Job Description
**Job Description Summary**
This role is responsible for independently executing the design and validation of high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear (HV GIS) adaptor modules for extension projects. The engineer will also support type testing activities, provide subject-matter expertise on GIS earthing, and perform electrical system studies (including insulation coordination and transient analysis) for customer projects and root cause analyses.
The role requires strong technical capability, ownership, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global and cross-functional teams.
**Job Description**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Design of GIS Adaptor Modules
+ Independently design GIS adaptor modules for extension projects in line with internal design guidelines and customer requirements.
+ Study and interpret customer and project specifications; assess technical complexity and risks, including through site visits when required.
+ Obtain, validate, and manage interface details from customers and internal stakeholders.
+ Perform mechanical and dielectric analyses to optimize designs and validate performance.
+ Prepare and release 3D models, 2D drawings, and supporting technical documents, ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery.
+ Ensure all technical documentation complies with engineering policies, procedures, and configuration management.
+ Collaborate with sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to ensure manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and robust product performance.
+ Lead or actively contribute to design reviews and design FMEAs, and implement resulting actions.
+ Type Tests Support
+ Plan and coordinate type test activities for GIS and AIS products.
+ Coordinate with external test laboratories for quotations, test slots, and test programs.
+ Coordinate internally for test sample preparation, internal testing, and logistics.
+ Maintain complete and traceable type test documentation and reports.
+ Support internal teams and customers on type test–related technical queries and clarifications.
+ GIS Earthing Expertise
+ Provide technical support for the adequate design of GIS earthing systems during engineering phase.
+ Address customer and site queries related to GIS earthing design and performance.
+ Contribute to root cause analyses (RCA) of site failures involving earthing; propose and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
+ Electrical System Studies
+ Identify and develop the necessary infrastructure for electrical system studies
+ Perform insulation coordination and transient analyses for customer projects and RCAs using appropriate tools and methodologies.
+ Document assumptions, methodology, and results; clearly communicate findings and recommendations to project teams and customers.
**Qualifications/Requirements:**
+ Bachelor/ Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
+ 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical design and simulation. Experience in HV/MV switchgear products is preferred.
+ Proficiency in electrical simulation tools (ex. Ansys Electrical, Flux or equivalent)
+ Proficiency in CAD tools like Creo Parametric, Windchill PLM, AutoCAD etc.
+ Exposure to GD&T, GPS tolerancing, tolerance stack-up analysis and related practices.
+ Exposure to manufacturing and assembly processes of electro-mechanical components.
+ Good knowledge of international standards for HV switchgear (IEC, IEEE, etc.)
+ Exposure to tools for electrical system studies (EMTP-RV, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP or equivalent)
+ Good oral/written communication skills in English.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional and global teams.
**Desired Characteristics**
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking end-to-end ownership of tasks.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, data-driven approach.
+ High level of accountability for quality, on-time delivery, and compliance with standards.
+ Well-organized, with strong documentation and reporting skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work in a project-driven environment.
+ Continuous learning mindset; actively seeks to deepen technical expertise and improve ways of working.
+ Proactively identifies and drives opportunities for continuous improvement in designs, processes, and tools.
