Job Description

As our energy team continues to grow, we are seeking a Senior Primary / Power Systems Engineer to join us in Perth. This senior role offers the chance to lead both primary and secondary system design and analysis, from Grid Interconnection Studies through to substation layout and equipment specification. You will gain extensive experience across islanded systems, BESS, onshore transmission, and more, with opportunities to act as Owner’s Engineer (OE) on major projects.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Lead utility‑scale transmission and renewable integration projects from feasibility through IFT design, covering both primary plant (substation layouts, equipment specification, busbar configurations) and power system studies (steady‑state, dynamic, and grid interconnection).
  • Undertake primary system design including substation layouts, earthing and lightning protection, high‑voltage equipment selection, busbar ratings, fault studies, and insulation coordination.
  • Conduct advanced grid interconnection and system planning studies, including steady‑state and dynamic assessments, cable ratings using CYMCAP, and generator integration to ensure system stability.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on AS Standards, WEM rules, Western Power requirements, and grid connection specifications across both primary and power systems domains.
  • Perform Owner’s Engineer duties, including design reviews, site inspections, grid compliance testing, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with a team of multi‑disciplinary engineers, clients, OEMs, network operators, and contractors producing technical reports, presentations, and supporting strategic renewable and energy transition initiatives.

Qualifications

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering, with 10+ years’ experience in power systems, ideally in consultancy, OEM, or utility network planning. Note: those with exposure to primary design will be highly regarded.
  • Proven expertise in power system analysis tools: PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, and ability to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Deep knowledge of grid connection processes, utility‑scale performance standards, WEM rules, and AEMO WEM Power System Modelling guidelines.
  • Extensive experience preparing technical design documentation, with strong grasp of control and protection for high‑voltage equipment, transmission lines, and generators.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of advising clients, guiding teams, drafting proposals, and driving business opportunities under tight deadlines.
