The Opportunity

Working under the direction of the Electrical Site Supervisor, the Electrical Technician will support the safe, efficient, and high‑quality installation of electrical systems at substation sites (greenfield and brownfield). This hands‑on role includes both primary and secondary installations, with a focus on technical excellence and WHS compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform HV and LV installations - including primary, secondary, and auxiliary systems
  • Execute work to exacting technical and safety standards
  • Interpret drawings, ITPs, and installation documentation
  • Support inspection, test, and commissioning activities
  • Operate safely in live/operational substation environments
  • Ensure lock‑out/tag‑out, exclusion zones, and isolation procedures are followed
  • Report defects, risks, and productivity updates daily
  • Participate in toolbox talks, site inductions, and safety meetings
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors and project engineers to meet milestones

Required Skills & Experience

  • Cert III in Electrotechnology (minimum)
  • Valid A‑Grade Electrical Licence (Tasmania)
  • At least 3 years of experience in HV substation construction (or similar)
  • Sound knowledge of AS/NZS standards and WHS compliance
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, diagrams, and manuals
  • Current White Card, C‑Class Driver's Licence, and National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • High attention to detail and safety in field‑based conditions

Desirable

  • Experience with fibre splicing/testing
  • Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence
  • HV testing and substation commissioning knowledge
  • Basic computer and reporting skills
