About the Role

We’re looking for a senior, hands-on Email Infrastructure & Deliverability Architect to design, own, and scale our complete email ecosystem. This role goes far beyond running SMTP servers or monitoring inbox rates—you will architect systems that anticipate ISP behavior, protect sender reputation, and scale across products without deliverability collapse.

You will be the single point of ownership for how emails are sent, from where, using which IPs and domains, under what rules, and how the system evolves as volume and product complexity grow.

Core Technologies & Skills Required

Email Infrastructure & Architecture:

• Large-scale SMTP architecture and system design
• High-availability, fault-tolerant email infrastructure
• Infrastructure segmentation for transactional, marketing, and system emails
• Capacity planning and future-proof architecture design

SMTP & Messaging Systems:

• Deep expertise with Postfix, Exim, PowerMTA, or similar SMTP servers
• Advanced SMTP protocol knowledge and tuning
• TLS, HELO/EHLO, rDNS configuration

IP, Domain & Reputation Management:

• Dedicated IP acquisition, warming, rotation, segregation, and retirement
• IP pool design aligned with risk profiles and product use cases
• Domain reputation management and lifecycle control
• Blacklist prevention, detection, and recovery

Deliverability & ISP Intelligence:

• SPF, DKIM, DMARC architecture and enforcement
• ISP behavior modeling (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, enterprise ISPs)
• Bounce analysis, throttling behavior, spam complaint handling
• Feedback loop monitoring and proactive mitigation

Product-Level Email Architecture:

• Designing application-to-SMTP interaction models
• Rate limiting, retries, fallback routing, and sender identity rules
• Guardrails to prevent misuse by product or marketing teams
• Deliverability-safe product launch planning

Governance & Documentation:

• SOP creation and architectural documentation
• Internal best-practice frameworks
• Long-term governance over email usage across teams

Ideal Candidate

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in email infrastructure, messaging systems, or large-scale SMTP environments.
• Proven experience architecting end-to-end email platforms—not just operating them.
• Deep understanding of ISP filtering algorithms and sender reputation systems.
• Experience managing high-volume dedicated IP pools across multiple products.
• Strong system-level thinking with a focus on risk, scalability, and long-term stability.
• Comfortable acting as the final technical authority for email-related decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and deploy scalable, high-availability SMTP infrastructure optimized for inbox placement.
• Own IP and domain reputation strategy end-to-end, including warming and lifecycle management.
• Define and enforce deliverability best practices across all teams and products.
• Work with product teams to architect email flows, not just execute sends.
• Design safeguards to ensure new features or campaigns do not damage global deliverability.
• Monitor ISP signals, feedback loops, and reputation metrics proactively.
• Create and maintain documentation, SOPs, and architectural standards.
• Act as the final decision-maker on all email infrastructure and deliverability matters.
