Position Title: Employee Benefits Compliance Associate Attorney
Location: Philadelphia, PA (Hybrid Schedule)
Compensation: $160,000 – $210,000 (commensurate with experience)
Overview: A leading law firm is seeking an Employee Benefits Compliance Associate Attorney to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice group. The ideal candidate will have experience advising clients on a broad range of employee benefits matters, including tax-qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, and health and welfare benefit plans. Key Responsibilities:
Advise employers and plan sponsors on the design, implementation, and compliance of qualified and nonqualified retirement plans (including 401(k), pension, and ESOP plans). Provide counsel on employee welfare benefit plans, including compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and other applicable regulations. Assist with executive compensation and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, including compliance with Internal Revenue Code Sections 409A, 457, and 280G. Draft and review plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and related compliance materials. Support clients through IRS and DOL audits, correction programs, and filings. Collaborate with corporate, tax, and employment teams on benefits issues related to mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions. Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Pennsylvania (or ability to waive in). 3–7 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law, preferably within a law firm or consulting environment. Strong understanding of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related federal regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong client service orientation. Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Work Environment:
