**Energy Resources Summer Intern – 2026**
Tri-State is an electric power utility providing electricity to rural electric cooperatives. We have an Energy Resources Summer Intern opportunity for 2026. Students who have successfully completed two (2) or more years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Legal/Regulatory, Data Analytics, Electrical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline with a focus on energy from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Seniors who will be graduating in December or are planning to attend graduate school in the Fall are also encouraged to apply.
**This summer position offers students a hands-on opportunity to learn about the electric utility industry and gain experience in working with professionals on the Energy Management team responsible for evaluating and managing traditional dispatchable and non-traditional innovative technologies such as gas, solar, wind, battery storage, geothermal, hybrids, etc. The successful candidate will gain exposure to different functions of the company, specifically how to interconnect new resources for regulatory compliance, and programs and policies surrounding energy resource solicitation, evaluation and long-term management.**
**Responsibilities:** The intern would learn about renewable energy resources and become familiar with an electric utility's planning, development, and contracting processes as well as regulatory compliance. The intern will learn about the current energy management landscape and technical aspects of renewable resources at the utility and distribution level. Putting information into data will build skills for analytics and tools used in the industry to track renewable performance.
**Projects may include the following:**
+ Data quality and assurance of renewable energy resources on Tri-State and member distribution cooperative systems behind the meter and demand response programs
+ Information organization and establish master sources of record for information regarding renewable and dispatchable resources including wind, solar, batteries, gas, hybrids etc.
+ Build a library of essential data points, contract performance criteria, and information surrounding renewable energy solar, wind, and battery Power Purchase Agreements.
+ Work with the Planning and Analytics teams, including Power Supply.
+ Long-Term Financial Forecasting, Analytics and Forecasting, Resource Planning, Demand Response, and Electrification Regulatory.
+ Origination and other groups across the company, including environmental, transmission operations, legal, regulatory, and external affairs.
**Job Requirements:**
The successful candidate will be a deep critical thinker with analytical skills and a recognition of process improvements and efficiency. The candidate will also have a hunger for learning about the electric utility/energy industry and rural electric cooperatives in the west, as well as interest in renewable energy resources including wind, solar, geothermal hybrid, battery energy storage systems, and gas nuclear.
**Duration and Work Schedule**
+ The duration of the summer internship will be from about the end of May until the end of August.
+ The work schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., forty hours per week. There is a possibility of telecommuting with 40% of the work week.
