What You’ll Be Doing

You will have a proven track record in building and leading high-performing teams, including recruiting, developing, and managing the performance of Software Engineers, Test Engineers, and Delivery personnel. Success in this role requires the ability to oversee the end-to-end delivery of complex technology systems and applications - from maintenance and enhancements to new technical initiatives and projects. You will ensure solutions are well-documented, technically robust, aligned with established standards and best practices, and delivered on time, within budget, and with the resources approved by the business. You’ll be responsible for:

• Strategic Planning and Alignment: Collaborate with IT leaders to set resource plans and objectives for the Software Engineering function that align with the 3-year strategic plan and annual IT and business goals.
• Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing Software Engineers and Testers. Setting team vision and goals, fostering a positive team culture with mentorship and development opportunities.
• Resource Planning and Delivery Oversight: Provide oversight to Delivery Leads and Team Leads in planning and executing the delivery of technology solutions, ensuring strategic alignment, efficient resource management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Process Improvement and Efficiency: Define, implement, and enforce software engineering and testing standards, practices, processes and tooling to enhance productivity, efficiency, and team performance. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize system maintenance and delivery workflows.
• Risk and Compliance Management: Identify and manage risks within the Software Engineering function according to risk management frameworks and policies. Collaborate with IT Security and Risk teams to implement controls and manage risks effectively.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with IT leaders, cross-functional stakeholders, and external partners to achieve business objectives and strategic goals. Support new business pursuits via proposals, initiative explore phases, and kick-off meetings.
• Performance Management: Establish common KPIs to measure team effectiveness, such as lead time, cycle time, deployment frequency, bug rates, time to resolve issues, team efficiency, team velocity, and other performance metrics.
• Governance and Reporting: Collaborate with the Head of Engineering, Delivery and Governance teams to provide accurate and timely updates on system maintenance, enhancements, and ongoing technology initiatives.
• Innovation and Technology Adoption: Stay updated on industry trends, drive innovation, and adopt new technologies to improve efficiency and support strategic objectives.

What Sets You Apart

• Proven Talent Management: Demonstrated success in hiring, retaining, and developing high-performance software delivery teams.
• Team Leadership Experience: Experience managing teams of 10+ Software Engineers and Test Analysts / Engineers, including conducting performance reviews and one-to-one meetings.
• Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of modern software engineering and testing standards, methodologies, architecture, design principles, and tools.
• Leadership in Delivery: Proven ability to lead software engineering and testing teams in maintaining and enhancing technology systems and applications, as well as delivering new technical solutions and initiatives.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate across divisions and functions.
• Risk Management: Proficiency in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to software engineering and testing.
• Strategic Planning: Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business objectives into actionable plans.
• Microservices and API Expertise: Knowledge of designing, documenting, and building microservices and APIs, including integration with internal and third-party services.
• Cloud and DevOps Proficiency: Knowledge of Azure DevOps and cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Critical Thinking and Facilitation: Excellent facilitation, planning, and critical thinking abilities.
• Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in all aspects of work.
