We are building a next-generation annotation platform designed for AV and ADAS applications. It unifies large-scale data ingestion, workflow orchestration, AI-assisted annotation, and high-performance visualization into a seamless, real-time web environment that handles complex multi-sensor and multi-modal data sources.
About the Role
As Engineering Manager – Platform Architecture , you will architect and oversee the technical foundation of iMerit’s next-generation data annotation web application. Your primary focus will be designing distributed backend systems, scalable data infrastructure, and streaming pipelines that support data ingestion, annotation workflows, and real-time feedback loops.
Your role will be highly technical, balancing architecture ownership, hands-on coding, and technical leadership for backend and data engineers. You will work with backend, data, and frontend teams to build a high-performance web application that integrates advanced visualization technologies (WebGL/WebGPU), streaming data pipelines, and scalable APIs for AI-assisted operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement the end-to-end backend and data infrastructure powering a real-time, multi-sensor data annotation web application.
- Design and build event-driven microservices using Go/Python for task orchestration, object tracking, and asynchronous data workflows.
- Develop and optimize streaming data pipelines (Kafka, Kinesis, or equivalent) for ingestion, transformation, and continuous feedback from annotation and QA systems.
- Define and structure data models and flow contracts that describe how annotation data, quality metrics, and system telemetry are stored, versioned, and exchanged across services.
- Develop SDKs and REST/gRPC APIs to enable third-party system integration, ML pipeline connectivity, and client-side tool development.
- Establish observability and performance frameworks, including metrics for latency, throughput, and reliability (SLOs and error budgets).
- Collaborate with frontend teams to ensure backend APIs and data contracts support high-performance visualization interfaces using WebGL/WebGPU.
- Partner with DevOps/SRE to enable secure deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and environment scaling across tenants.
- Contribute directly to software development, including prototyping, debugging, and performance tuning of backend and data services.
Qualifications
- 10–14 years of experience in software engineering, with strong emphasis on backend and data architecture for large-scale systems.
- Proven experience designing and deploying distributed, event-driven systems and streaming data pipelines.
- Expert proficiency in Go/Python, including experience with microservices, APIs, and concurrency models.
- Deep understanding of data flows across multi-sensor and multi-modal sources, including ingestion, transformation, and synchronization.
- Experience building real-time APIs for interactive web applications and data-heavy workflows.
- Familiarity with frontend ecosystems (React, TypeScript) and rendering frameworks leveraging WebGL/WebGPU.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm).
- Excellent problem-solving and leadership abilities with the capacity to balance hands-on engineering and team guidance.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across backend systems and web applications.
Additional Qualifications
- Prior experience with Autonomous Vehicle, Robotics, or 3D visualization platforms.
- Understanding of OpenLABEL or similar schema standards for metadata.
- Experience designing developer SDKs or integration libraries.
- Exposure to GPU-accelerated data processing or rendering architectures.
