POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the concept development and execution of all new entertainment within both Marquee and Capital Projects for Universal Studios Japan (USJ). Provides leadership, vision, and overall creative direction, leading and working collaboratively with Show Directors, Art & Design Team, Costuming, Technicians, Producers, and Executive Stakeholders to define and meet creative goals and intent related to entertainment projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

・Oversee the concepts and story development for USJ Entertainment that affect guest experience. Oversee and direct the execution concept designs of all project show elements. Ensure guest experience intent, story and overall quality is maintained through project delivery.

・Acts as project liaison as needed with internal and external partners, licensors, and intellectual property owners. Interface with senior management, clients, partners, and other Universal division stakeholders. Oversees and coordinates presentations and approvals with IP holders.

・Oversees long lead creative planning in collaboration with the VP of Entertainment Creative. Responsible of ideas and concepts not yet within a Capital or Marquee cycle.

・Oversee the development and creation of appropriate project presentations to both internal and external audiences to communicate project concept, content, and status.

・Manages and identifies talent and resources necessary to complete the project and partners with Director, Creative Projects, Senior Live Entertainment Creative Manager and Senior Art Director to procure services.

・Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established USJ policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.

・Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: A degree in theater, art, environmental design, architecture, or related field required and/or preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 10+ years’ experience leading a world-class team on theme park projects is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Must be able to communicate complex artistic ideas through a combination of written, visual, and aural material.
