Job Description
**Qualified lawyer with deep experience in EMEA data privacy and security compliance to act as main legal support for business queries related to data privacy and security regulations and member of Privacy team responsible for ensuring regional implementation of global data privacy compliance processes, as well as regional Data Protection Officer as required in the UK and EU and oversight of global DPO network.**
**What are we looking for?**
+ A practising lawyer with relevant post qualification experience of at least 12+ years, with a licence to practice in England and Wales or in a EU member state, with significant privacy compliance experience gained full time in-house or at a law firm (or combination) is required
+ Previous experience acting as a regulatory Data Protection Officer for a large multi-national corporation is preferred
+ Experience navigating or operating within global data protection lawsand requirements including extensive knowledge of the detail and practical application of data protection requirements including in the UK and throughout Europe
+ Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, under pressure and enforce companywide standards
+ Demonstrate experience communicating effectively with the highest levels of management within the organisation and external stakeholders to provide advice regarding data protection questions, risks, contract terms and issues
+ Ability to communicate effectively with data subjects, data protection authorities, works councils, and other controllers and processors across national boundaries and cultures
+ Ability to simultaneously mange workloads, multiple demands and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
**What will be your key responsibilities?**
+ Provide expert legal advice to business and Legal stakeholders on questions related to data privacy and security law, including managing outside counsel as needed
+ Manage privacy compliance program across all Mars segments and affiliates for EMEA region, including overseeing regional operational elements of the Mars Global Privacy Program like responding to data subject access requests, completing data protection impact assessments, managing data privacy incidents, managing integration activities for newly acquired businesses, providing routine training,advising on data privacy contract negotiations, and maintaining updated policies and procedures
+ Act as the statutory EU Group Data Protection Officer for Mars affiliates as required by law in some UK and EU jurisdictions, including advising the CPO and senior leadership on complex data protection issues specific to the business. Responsible for ensuring appropriate registration in identified markets, providing annual DPO reports to senior leadership, and otherwise fulfilling regulatory responsibilities
+ Oversee global Data Protection Officer network, including regional DPOs in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa, including devising strategy to ensure regulatory compliance, routine contact and training
+ Serve as the primary contact point for data protection authorities in Europe and the UK on issues relating to processing while managing regional DPOs in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain.
+ Monitor and track current and emerging data protection regulations and regulatory requirements, translate legal terms into business requirements, guidance and advice. Identify and escalate data protection risk and issues as needed
+ Review and provide objective risk mitigating recommendations for high-risk processing of personal identified in DPIAs as required by privacy regulation
+ Support the Chief Privacy Officerin designing and maintaining a global corporate data privacy program for Mars and its affiliates
+ Where assigned by the CPO, lead privacy compliance workstreams of enterprise-wide transformation projects, collaborating cross-functionally as required
+ Contribute as a senior member of the Ethics & Compliance team, including leading strategic cross-pillar project work and collaborating with other members of the Ethics & Compliance team to provide unified training and awareness
+ Act as an escalation point for junior counsel, paralegals and Senior Counsel as well as provide coaching and mentoring as needed
+ Develop strong cross-functional relationships to increase efficiency and effectiveness of Privacy Program through collaboration with other relevant functions, including Information Security, Digital Technologies, Commercial, Legal, and Marketing
+ Work closely with segment business and legal leadership, have deep understanding of business issues and the practical implications of privacy regulations, anticipate and assess legal risks, and work to develop strategies to reduce potential risks in collaboration with other relevant business functions.
