Small Cell Engineer (Fiber / A&E)
Pay Rate: Targeting $70/hr
Expenses Reimbursed: Cell phone, internet, mileage (if traveling)
Position Summary
The Small Cell Engineer is responsible for owning and executing the production and coordination of Small Cell Architecture & Engineering (A&E) drawings across multiple customer projects. This role ensures accurate, timely, and policy-compliant design deliverables that support construction, modification, and colocation of Small Cell sites.
The engineer will coordinate with A&E vendors, carriers, internal project teams, and utilities to manage drawing quality, revisions, forecasting, and milestone completion. This role plays a critical part in ensuring design accuracy, regulatory compliance, and smooth project execution within agreed timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
A&E Drawing Coordination & Delivery
Coordinate and expedite A&E drawing production, including vendor pricing, contracting, scheduling, and quality control.
Review and QC initial drawings, manage revisions, and ensure construction drawings align with approved designs.
Validate drawing consistency against structural analyses, applications, and equipment specifications.
Ensure CAD site plans used as lease exhibits are accurate and current.
Request, manage, and quality-control zoning drawings and related documentation.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
Participate in internal and external deployment meetings as directed by the Project Manager.
Communicate proactively with District Managers, Project Managers, and customers regarding risks to schedule or cost.
Coordinate resolution of design issues such as limited lease entitlements, easements, or additional ground space needs.
Maintain forecasting dates and actualize the "Obtain CDs” milestone in PMT.
Utilities, Compliance & Construction Readiness
Coordinate utilities (AC power) and A&E site walks as required.
Validate design standards and requirements; provide redlines when necessary.
Support Public ROW compliance, including GO95 requirements and utility applications.
Ensure all A&E deliverables meet policies, procedures, and agreed timelines.
Financial & Administrative Support
Create requisitions for purchase order approvals and vendor payments.
Ensure out-of-scope reimbursables are billed correctly per customer agreements.
Approve vendor invoices associated with assigned projects.
Submit required change management notifications and adhere to field activity policies.
Closeout & Documentation
Upload and distribute deliverables to appropriate and carrier systems.
Provide Operations/Provisioning with final DLRs and test shots for project closeout.
Complete CRM closeout tasks upon project completion.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
Experience
1–3 years of experience in:
A&E drawings and/or telecom construction
Small Cell engineering and build projects
Hands-on experience with:
Public ROW projects
GO95 standards
AC power and utility coordination
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of wireless/telecommunications project management and asset management.
Understanding of site acquisition, regulatory, and permitting processes.
Ability to read and interpret:
Construction drawings
Blueprints
Structural details for towers and rooftops
Working knowledge of construction services including:
Telecom
Power
Fiber
Towers, lines, and antennas
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify workflow bottlenecks and critical paths.
Ability to interpret financial metrics and recommend corrective actions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Customer-focused mindset with the ability to work across internal and external teams.
