We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Communications Technician to provide regional telecommunications field support as part of an experienced IT organization. This role supports critical communications systems across local and regional sites and requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be exposed to challenging, dynamic projects while collaborating closely with IT, engineering, and field operations teams.
This position plays a hands-on role in system installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault isolation, while also providing first-level training and support to field personnel.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of communications systems, including voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave, satellite equipment, and supporting infrastructure
Support local and regional projects, including system implementations and upgrades
Perform preventive maintenance, fault isolation, and corrective troubleshooting activities
Provide x on-call support for critical communications systems
Assist the projects group with implementation of project-related telecommunications systems
Direct and oversee local contractors involved in the installation and maintenance of telecom systems
Provide first-level training and ongoing support to field operations personnel
Serve as the first-level liaison between field operations and the IT organization
Drive and enforce field standards while providing feedback to the communications engineering team
Travel to regional sites as required (up to %)
High school diploma or GED required
Associate degree in Electronics or a minimum of years of equivalent hands-on electronics experience
+ years of experience installing and/or maintaining telecommunications systems, including wireless data systems, SCADA, and LAN cabling
Ability to independently prioritize work and operate without direct supervision
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in field environments
Proficiency using telecommunications test equipment and support software
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and clients
Physical ability to work outdoors and safely operate a motor vehicle
FCC license
Network certifications such as CCNA
Experience installing and maintaining phone systems and microwave communications systems
This is a contract position with potential to convert to permanent based on performance and business needs
