Job Description
The Controller will be responsible for managing and optimizing the company's expense structure across the organization. This role centers on deep analysis of our business’s economic drivers and offering clear, actionable insights through ongoing Budget vs. Actuals (BVA) management. The ideal candidate has strong financial acumen, thrives on digging into data, and brings curiosity and a holistic lens to diagnosing issues and recommending improvements.

Key Responsibilities
Budget vs. Actuals (BVA) Ownership
- Lead the monthly BVA process for the expense side of the business
- Prepare variance analyses and identify trends, anomalies, and areas of opportunity.
- Communicate insights to leadership and department heads in a clear, actionable manner.
Interest Expense Analysis
- Track, analyze, and report interest expenses across all relevant financial instruments or credit facilities.
- Build and maintain schedules that forecast interest expense under different scenarios.
- Partner with finance leadership to evaluate cost of capital and the impact on product margins.
Unit Economics Across Product Mix
- Develop granular unit economic models for each product line within the Zavvie ecosystem.
- Analyze contribution margins, sensitivity drivers, and product-level ROI.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, or pricing strategy.
- Support leadership with financial modeling for new products or enhancements.
Department-Level Expense Management
- Collaborate with leadership to review, forecast, and optimize departmental spending.
- Ensure costs are properly allocated and aligned with operational goals.
- Evaluate vendor spend, tools, and processes to identify cost-saving or reallocation opportunities.
Strategic Financial Insights & Problem Solving
- Take a holistic, end-to-end perspective of the business to connect financial insights to operational actions.
- Proactively identify financial risks and inefficiencies before they become problems.
- Recommend data-driven solutions to support scaling and sustainable growth.
- Participate in scenario planning, strategic discussions, and ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in FP&A, controllership, corporate finance, or similar financial roles.
- Experience working with marketplace, fintech, real estate, or product-diverse businesses strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to perform detailed variance analyses and build dynamic financial models.
- Strong understanding of unit economics, cost allocations, and expense optimization.
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving instincts and intellectual curiosity.
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fractional or consulting capacity; able to operate autonomously.
- Advanced Excel / Sheets skills; familiarity with accounting systems, BI tools, and forecasting software is a plus.
