Job Description

Full Stack Engineer (Team Lead), Web Team

Join to apply for the Full Stack Engineer (Team Lead), Web Team role at Laravel.

We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer with a leaning towards the backend who can bring world‑class architecture, taste, and engineering excellence to our website and ecosystem. We find purpose in enabling others to build things that improve their lives and make software development enjoyable, batteries‑included, and productive.

Your 12‑Month Mission

  • Pivotal Enhancements: Led the small web dev team in delivering new Laravel.com experiences that improve traffic‑to‑revenue conversion.
  • Content Excellence: Built upon and substantially improved the management and maintainability of content‑heavy web and marketing efforts.
  • Cross‑Product Impact: Contributed as a senior contributor across our products and engineering teams.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Partnered with Marketing and provided clear, low‑touch leadership and reporting to the Engineering head.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the Backend & System Architecture for our website: architect and implement core Laravel backend with robust data models, API design, security, and scalability.
  • Full Stack Feature Delivery: take backend‑leaning features from idea to production, owning database schema, API endpoints (Laravel/PHP), integration layer, and light front‑end components (Next.js/React).
  • Conversion & Marketing Systems: partner with Marketing to build and improve systems that drive business growth.
  • Integration and Contribution: contribute expertise across the Laravel product portfolio, solving complex system problems.
  • Technical Taste Setter: serve as go‑to expert for backend development questions, setting implementation standards and driving long‑term vision.
  • Elevate the Team: mentor engineers across teams, raising architectural quality, code maintainability, and security practices.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: ask critical product and UX questions to ensure solutions are elegant, scalable, and truly solve user needs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building production‑scale web applications, with deep expertise in Laravel, PHP, and modern backend architecture.
  • Full Stack Fluency: significant experience shaping the integration layer between a PHP backend and a modern JavaScript front‑end (ideally Next.js/React), including building clean, resilient APIs.
  • Systems Thinking: demonstrated experience designing scalable component models, data‑loading strategies, and API architectures that scale under high traffic.
  • Business & Product Focus: delivered features that directly impact key business metrics such as conversion and revenue.
  • Taste in Architecture: care deeply about system elegance, data model integrity, performance, and developer experience.
  • Collaboration and Ownership: proactive mindset, comfortable partnering with designers, marketers, and product leaders.
  • Bias for Action: bias toward iteration—prototype fast, refine continuously, and ship without compromising architectural quality.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience designing and building highly maintainable CMS or content management systems.
  • Experience with developer‑platform or cloud‑infrastructure companies.
  • Active contributions to open‑source projects in the Laravel/PHP ecosystem.

Benefits

  • Fully remote and globally distributed working environment.
  • Health care plan (Medical, Dental & Vision).
  • Paid time off (Vacation, Sick & Public holidays).
  • Family leave (Maternity, Paternity).
  • Pension plans (as locally applicable).
  • Performance‑based bonus plan.
  • Company equity.
