General Manager Strategy & Commercial (Renewables)

Your new Company:

A leading player in the Renewable Energy sector in the Australian market, specialising in development, construction, asset management and maintenance of renewable energy projects across the country. They have a growing portfolio comprising of Solar, Wind & Battery Energy Storage (BESS) across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. They also have significant backing from a multinational parent and a strong mandate for growth.

Your new role:

Reporting to the Country Head you will lead cross-functional teams to conduct early-stage development, risk and investment assessment activities so that internal and external stakeholders are aligned in their pursuit of investment opportunities. You will also develop and a lead a small, high-performing team across a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, and battery storage projects. This is an opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the Australian business and:

• Identify and secure new growth opportunities, from greenfield projects to mergers and acquisitions.
• Oversee early-stage development, risk assessment, and investment decision-making for the portfolio.
• Negotiate and execute all early-stage agreements, ensuring alignment with strategy and investment criteria.
• Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to identify emerging opportunities and inform strategic decisions.
• Represent the client in public forums and build strategic partnerships with government, industry, and community stakeholders.
• Establish and lead an energy trading function, managing wholesale risk and commercial strategies.
• Ensure compliance of development and trading activities with relevant regulations and manage financial performance.

Who you are:

10+ years of relevant experience in senior leadership roles within the renewable energy, infrastructure, or energy markets sectors with a proven track record in M&A, project development, energy trading, commercial strategy, and stakeholder engagement.

This is quite a broad role, so we don’t expect applicants to have all the required experience, but it’s important to have the potential to grow with the role and with the company as well. Whilst Renewable Energy experience is desireable, people from diverse energy backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
