Role and Facility Information. Community Details – Kelowna. The interior of Kelowna offers water, mountains, parks, and a lively population centre with access to outdoor activities, orchards, vineyards, arts, galleries, and theatre. Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral centre with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. KGH includes the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC), which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is KGH’s principal surgical site with multiple specialized operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH also features a modern maternity ward, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric ward, adolescent and adult psychiatry units, and enhanced laboratory and clinical departments.
