About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Geospatial Science Officer to support the delivery of major rail infrastructure initiatives within a large public sector environment. This is a 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension, offering the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact transport projects that will shape the future of passenger rail.
Based in Brisbane or Buderim, you will report to the Principal Surveyor and act as a technical authority for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), providing expert advice, leadership and innovative geospatial solutions to support infrastructure delivery.
Key responsibilities.
- Provide specialist GIS advice and consultancy within a rail infrastructure delivery environment
- Deliver GIS&T projects, products and services aligned with organisational requirements
- Manage geospatial and digital project delivery and develop GIS applications to solve complex problems
- Assemble, analyse, interpret and report on spatial data using high-quality mapping products and datasets
- Manipulate, consolidate and rationalise ArcGIS datasets across file, enterprise and hosted environments
- Develop and maintain naming conventions and metadata standards for infrastructure projects
- Produce documentation, user guides and training materials for GIS applications and standards
- Manage ESRI geodatabases and associated file systems
- Develop and deploy automated workflows using Python, FME and Microsoft Office tools
- Contribute to organisational capability uplift through knowledge sharing and technology transfer
- Ensure compliance with policies relating to financial practices, equity and diversity, workplace health and safety, and codes of conduct
Highly desirable criteria.
- Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and FME Form
- Strong experience managing complex geospatial datasets and enterprise GIS environments
- Proven ability to deliver GIS solutions within large infrastructure or regulated environments
Desirable criteria.
- Python scripting and Model Builder experience
- Familiarity with AWS CLI, AutoCAD and 12D
- Professional membership or certification with the Geospatial Council of Australia (GISP-AP)
- Experience working within government or large-scale public sector projects
Skills and experience.
- Tertiary qualification (minimum 3 years) in Spatial Science (GIS) or an equivalent discipline
- Demonstrated experience converting raw data into spatial formats and maintaining GIS databases
- Strong cartographic skills with experience producing high-quality print and web-based mapping products
- Sound understanding of geospatial information science principles and industry best practices
- Ability to operate within legislative and policy frameworks while proactively identifying and managing risk
- Strong communication skills with the ability to respond to stakeholder enquiries and provide tailored GIS services
- A current Class C driver’s licence
