Job Description

Position Objective


The Head of Operations is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the manufacturing unit, ensuring production efficiency, quality compliance, workforce discipline, and safety standards. This role acts as the leader, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals.


Detailed Key Responsibilities


1. Production Management

  • Plan, organize, and monitor daily production activities to meet output targets.
  • Ensure production schedules are followed and adjusted as needed to meet delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate procurement teams to ensure release of purchase orders.
  • Plan for timely availability of raw materials and components with Supply Chain team.

2. Workforce Supervision

  • Allocate tasks and responsibilities to line supervisors as per the shift requirements.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, and performance of factory staff.
  • Conduct regular briefings to communicate goals, safety instructions, and operational updates.
  • Motivate and guide the team to maintain high morale and productivity.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure that products meet defined quality standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to identify defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Train workers on quality procedures and encourage a culture of β€œright first time.”

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure all workers use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct safety drills and ensure compliance with statutory regulations (e.g., fire safety, labor laws).
  • Report and investigate any incidents or near-misses and implement preventive measures.

5. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

  • Monitor the condition of machinery and equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team for timely servicing and repairs.
  • Maintain logs of equipment usage and downtime for analysis and improvement.

6. Inventory & Resource Control

  • Track usage of raw materials, tools, and consumables to prevent wastage.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of materials to avoid damage or loss.
  • Collaborate with the stores department for timely replenishment and stock audits.

7. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and submit daily production reports, shift summaries, and incident logs.
  • Maintain records of manpower deployment, machine utilization, and quality checks.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to senior management for process improvements.

8. Coordination with Cross-Functional Teams

  • Liaise with departments such as R&D, procurement, quality and maintenance.
  • Ensure smooth flow of information and materials across departments.
  • Participate in review meetings and contribute to strategic planning.

9. Training & Development

  • Identify skill gaps and recommend training programs for workers.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for new recruits and existing staff.
  • Promote continuous improvement and upskilling within the team.


Key Dimensions


  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
  • 10 – 15 years. Out of that at least 5 years of experience in a leading role for factory operations. Experience in Energy Meter manufacturing is must.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems.
