Heavy Structures Mechanic Location: Birmingham, AL Position Type: Contract (W-2) Contract Length: Long-Term Overtime: Required Role Summary We are seeking experienced Aviation Structures Mechanics to support a long-term Boeing 717 Spar Modification project in Birmingham, Alabama. This position focuses on heavy structural modification work and requires the ability to work extended hours and overtime to meet project schedules. Candidates must be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in aircraft structural repair and fabrication. Key Duties & Responsibilities Perform structural work primarily related to B-717 Spar Modifications. Project job and responsibilities can change. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications Inspect aircraft structural components for damage, corrosion, or fatigue Remove, repair, or replace damaged structural parts as required Fabricate, align, assemble, and install metallic and composite structures including skins, ribs, panels, spars, and supports Drill, rivet, fasten, seal, and finish structural assemblies Apply corrosion protection and perform required inspections Ensure all work complies with FAA, OEM, and engineering requirements Accurately document all maintenance and modification work performed Maintain tools, equipment, jigs, and work areas in a safe and efficient condition Support production schedules and coordinate material flow as needed Work overtime and extended shifts to support project deadlines Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Vocational or technical training in aircraft structures, sheet metal, or composites preferred Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications Hands-on experience with aircraft structural materials (aluminum, titanium, composites) Proficient with fabrication, assembly, and structural repair tools Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and elevated work areas Ability to handle heavy components and comply with all safety and regulatory requirements
