Job Summary

Denver Health Medical Center is currently recruiting for a PRN/Intermittent Oncologist to join our practice for 2-3 half day clinic sessions per week. The Division of Hematology-Oncology is a community practice that takes care of general hematology and oncology adult patients referred from the Denver Health primary care network. The team consists of 5 oncologists, and is supported by a full time clinical oncology pharmacy specialist, dedicated oncology clinic nursing staff as well as a 16 chair infusion center. DH has a robust multidisciplinary team that includes surgery, radiology, pathology and interventional radiology. Radiation Oncology is available via referral, with active participation in our weekly tumor boards. Denver Health physicians are faculty members at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and all oncology fellows from the University's training program rotate through the DH inpatient consult service and carry their own outpatient clinic patient panel. As part of their responsibilities, DH oncologists staff fellows and provide guidance and education during their rotations.

The PRN position is expected to have 2 to 3 half day clinic sessions per week, plus administrative time to complete patient related coordination activities. Inpatient responsibilities can be considered but is not required. Involvement with fellowship training can be considered but is not required.

Essential Functions :

  • Collect medical histories of patients. (10%)
  • Perform diagnostic procedures using MRIs, x-rays, and biopsies to determine the existence and extent of cancerous tumors. (40%)
  • Create a treatment plan, typically comprised of radiation, chemotherapy, and/or surgery to combat cancers. (20%)
  • Perform physical evaluations and administrative tasks, like maintaining medical records. (10%)
  • Coordinate with other medical professionals to offer the best care possible for the patient. (10%)
  • Perform bone marrow transplants. (5%)
  • Provide supportive care to patients, including prescribing drugs to fight pain, inflammation, nausea, and fatigue. (5%)

  • Education :

  • Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. Required
  • Completion of hematology/oncology fellowship program
  • Licenses :

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, notably chemotherapeutic and oncolytic agents.
  • Perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies.
  • Administer intrathecal chemotherapy.
  • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
  • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
  • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
