POSITION OVERVIEW
The Housing and Residential Life Manager provides leadership and develops a vision for community engagement, programming, and promoting student accountability for housing procedures and policies across multiple residences for undergraduate students, and the Housing Database for returning or graduate students. The manager supervises a team of professional staff and Resident Assistants to promote a welcoming, safe, and supportive student residential experience while ensuring they are connected with campus resources. The Manager establishes rapport with partners within AUP including the Director of Campus & Housing Operations, and external housing providers/ tenants to ensure current and prospective students housing options and needs are being addressed and in alignment with institutional strategic goals.
DUTIES
Coordinates preparation work for the housing offering website each semester
Suggests calendar of payment deadlines and amounts to Vice President of Student Life and Director of Campus & Housing Operations
Ensures new student enrollment in one of the required housing options before new student orientation, facilitating communication between Admissions Office, Housing & Residential staff, and third-party housing providers
Oversees all housing assignments and communication for and with all incoming students housed by AUP, coordinates with Student Accounting Services about payments
Monitors and confirms new undergraduate exemption requests to the first-year residency requirement
Coordinates with the Academic Resource Center to find suitable housing options for students with approved disability accommodations
Oversees the management of the Housing Database and the regular updating of listings; provides support services for returning and graduate students search and rental processes through the database; facilitates communication about tenant issues between students and the landlord
Collaborates with the Dean of Student Life & Community Standards in the implementation, maintenance, and evolution of the digital tools deemed necessary for the Housing & Residential Life staff
Supervises the Housing Landing Day(s), check-in at the beginning of each orientation session. Coordinates with housing providers, Resident Assistants, Student Advisors, and university partners to ensure a smooth landing of incoming students
Provides leadership, guidance, and support of 3 full-time Housing & Residential Staff members and the Resident Assistants in the areas of community engagement, conflict mediation, crisis response, policy enforcement, administrative processes and student support
Participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of the Resident Assistants
Provides assistance in resolving escalated roommate conflicts, organizing a move within the AUP housing system in case of irreconcilable differences, and referring students to guidance counselling services when necessary Enforces the Housing Rules and Regulations Agreements and coordinates with Student Life leadership for specific follow-up when necessary
Performs and oversees accounting and other administrative tasks (housing billing, housing insurance follow-up) through CAMS Enterprise management system and any applicable software
Ensures communication to students regarding the CAF and housing insurance
Informs students of their rights and helps to hold them accountable for their housing responsibilities. Relay any maintenance and logistics concerns to the Director of Campus & Housing Operations
Coordinates with other University departments to ensure that the Housing & Residential Life Office business practices are in line with changing University-wide policies, including the Admissions Office, the Registrar, and Student Accounting Services
Conducts regular (at least annually) student satisfaction surveys in an effort to collect data for Student Life and AUP annual assessments
Other appropriate duties may also be assigned as requested by the Supervisor and according to the needs of the Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 2-3 years professional experience
Bachelors degree or equivalent; Master's degree preferred
Bilingual French/English, written and spoken
Previous experience in US style student housing
Sensitivity to student needs and cultural differences
Familiarity with the Paris and the French community
Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure
Computer literacy (including the use of databases)
