About The Role
We are seeking an experienced HR Manager ‑ Plant Operations to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will work directly under the guidance of the Plant Manager to oversee all human resource functions within our manufacturing facility. Your primary responsibilities will include managing labour relations, staffing, employee development, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and workplace standards. This role requires a strategic thinker with a comprehensive understanding of unionized environments, capable of fostering positive relationships between management and employees. Your expertise will contribute to creating a high‑performance culture, supporting organizational growth, and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and productive work environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a university degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience working in a unionized setting with a generalist HR profile is required. Membership in HRPA or similar professional associations is considered an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong strategic thinking, change‑management skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Excellent relationship‑building skills, adaptability to dynamic environments, and proficiency in conflict resolution and diplomacy are crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Administer and oversee labour relations, including negotiations, grievances, and collective bargaining processes.
- Manage staffing processes, including recruitment, onboarding, and integration of new hires to ensure a smooth transition into the organization.
- Develop and implement employee training and development programs to enhance skills and career growth.
- Manage employee benefits programs, ensuring competitive offerings and effective communication.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards, fostering a safe working environment for all employees.
- Facilitate internal communication to promote transparency and employee engagement across the plant.
- Participate actively in joint committee meetings to support collaboration between management and employees.
- Advise managers on the application of the collective agreement and various HR management programs.
- Represent the company in interactions with municipal and government authorities to maintain and develop strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate on various HR initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement efforts to optimize HR practices and policies.
