Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced IMS Database Administrator to join the Mainframe Technologies team and provide senior technical consultation on IMS database management disciplines. This role is critical in ensuring the availability, performance, and reliability of IMS databases within IMS subsystems, including FullFunction and FastPath components.
The IMS DBA will work closely with technical support teams, application development teams, and production services to deliver robust solutions in a highly regulated environment. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, mentoring capabilities, and participation in strategic planning for mainframe platforms. 24x7 on-call support on a rostered basis is required.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain IMS database solutions, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Provide technical leadership on IMS database usage, tuning, and monitoring across mainframe environments.
- Manage backup and recovery processes for IMS databases.
- Collaborate with application development teams to deliver new functionality and enhancements.
- Analyse and resolve complex technical issues impacting IMS database performance and stability.
- Maintain documentation, standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in planning, estimation, and reporting activities for mainframe projects.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members.
- Deliver effective communication and education to stakeholders on IMS database best practices.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in IMS database administration, including availability, capacity planning, performance tuning, recovery, and security.
- Expert knowledge of FullFunction and FastPath IMS components.
- Strong understanding of IBM z/OS operating system.
- Hands-on experience with IBM and BMC IMS database utilities.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build strong relationships.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and ISTQB certification (preferred).
Desirable Experience
- IMS database administration in HOGAN environments.
- Exposure to project management methodologies.
- Understanding of banking applications and mainframe integration.
