Job Description
We are Australia’s submarine company and every day we are supporting the Royal Australian Navy to protect Australia’s national security and to bring its submariners home safely.
Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking two Instructional Designers with complementary strengths:
- One position will focus primarily on hands‑on development, producing eLearning, systems training, and digital learning resources (SA based).
- The second position will place greater emphasis on contractor coordination and oversight, while still undertaking a portion of the development work (SA or WA based).
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Instructional Designers to make a meaningful impact within our organisation. Each Instructional Designer will be allocated specific projects—often technical, systems‑focused or capability‑related—while also supporting ongoing business‑as‑usual learning needs.
In addition to project work, you will contribute to regular updates and improvements to existing eLearning modules, guided by tasks raised through the organisation’s Jira ticketing system. These updates ensure our content remains accurate, current, and aligned with operational and compliance requirements.
You will join a dynamic team committed to building organisational capability, strengthening performance, and fostering a positive, learner‑centred culture. This role provides the opportunity to apply your instructional design expertise within a technical environment, with strong opportunities for professional growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality instructional design across allocated projects, working closely with SMEs and stakeholders.
- Contribute to ongoing updates to existing eLearning content, driven by the organisation’s JIRA ticketing system.
- Ensure training programs and learning tools meet current and future capability needs.
- Research and apply effective, contemporary approaches to training delivery.
- Design and storyboard high‑quality eLearning content (audio, video, simulations, scenarios, interactive activities).
- Support a consistent Learning & Development brand and ensure learning is accessible to the workforce.
- Apply strong end‑to‑end project management skills to deliver on time and to quality.
About you
- Strong understanding of the ADDIE model and contemporary learning design methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience creating end‑to‑end learning programs.
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong capability with Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise, and related tools).
- Strong capability with Microsoft 365, including advanced skills in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard or similar) is highly desirable.
- Experience with video creation and editing.
- Jira experience is desirable but not essential.
- Contractor management experience is desirable.
- A collaborative team member who contributes positively to culture and outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance. An existing NV1 clearance would be highly advantageous.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
