Position Summary

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the International Admissions Assistant for Asia Pacific & Oceania, processes and evaluates admissions for new international students, from recruitment through registration, within their assigned geographic region. They provide post-registration support and are expected to possess regional expertise, including fluency in a primary language of that region.

Under the guidance of Regional and Recruitment Managers, they support recruitment by engaging with prospective international students, promoting Centennial College, and participating in virtual and in-person marketing and recruitment events. Responsibilities include conducting informational sessions, conversion activities (e.g., calling campaigns), and campus tours to meet international enrolment targets.

The role involves processing admissions for certificate, diploma, degree, and graduate programs, issuing offers, and ensuring accurate registration. Extensive knowledge of global education systems and their Canadian equivalencies is essential.

Additionally, the role includes responding to diverse inquiries from stakeholders, maintaining confidentiality, and managing high volumes of work under pressure. Incumbents provide backup support to other service areas in the International Education Office during peak periods to meet deadlines and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with prospective international students, agents, and stakeholders to promote Centennial programs and pathways through virtual/in-person events, campus tours, and calling campaigns.
  • Provide information sessions and training on admissions processes, ensuring recruitment targets are met.
  • Support marketing and outreach initiatives, including event preparation and data collection.
  • Evaluate and process applications, including verification of credentials and adherence to admission requirements for various programs.
  • Communicate admissions decisions and address issues to support applicants through the admissions cycle.
  • Utilize systems like Banner and OCAS to maintain accurate student records and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist students with course registration, ensuring program requirements and full-time status are maintained.
  • Resolve registration issues and refer students to advisors for further guidance.
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries about recruitment, admissions, and registration processes.
  • Offer non-academic and cultural support to international students, including interpretation services when needed.
  • Collaborate on special projects, support colleagues during peak periods, and provide feedback to improve departmental services. 
  • Qualifications/Experience

  • Two (2) year diploma or equivalent, Business Administration, International Relations, Communications, Education, Office Administration or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in international education, preferably in a post secondary environment; experience must include knowledge of related visa and immigration legislation. 
  • Fluency writing and speaking in English and Mandarin is mandatory; fluency in additional languages in the geographic region (Cantonese) considered an asset. 
  • Strong knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and customer service skills, with awareness of international students' needs.
  • Familiarity with visa and immigration legislation, including cross-cultural nuances.
  • Knowledge of Ontario's secondary school system and credential evaluation; experience detecting fraudulent documents is an asset.
  • Proficiency in PC software (Windows, Microsoft Office) and integrated student information systems.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and high-pressure tasks while maintaining confidentiality (e.g., Freedom of Information and Privacy Act).
  • Experience working in diverse environments with advanced understanding of specific geographic cultural norms and education systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to resolve escalated situations effectively and provide student-focused service.
