The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division (SPaTS) delivers policy, programs and resources to:

  • help all students thrive at schools, particularly those facing financial hardship
  • help teachers deliver the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom, in ways that support student learning and wellbeing - through Tech Schools and STEM centres, School Sports Victoria, swimming programs, State Schools Spectacular, the Strategic Partnerships Program and English as an Additional Language resources
  • support priority cohorts of students, including CALD and refugee students, and rural and regional students

School Sport Victoria is part of the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to manage a team to effectively deliver the School Sport Victoria interschool sport program to primary and secondary schools across Victoria. This program offers a pathway across 18 core sports for school teams and individual students to progress through levels, from local interschool competitions and events, to State Championships.

We are seeking a manager to lead the effective delivery of the School Sport Victoria interschool sport program, which includes:

  • managing the interschool sport team of six staff,
  • overseeing program planning and budget management of School Sport Victoria regional interschool sport and State Championship competitions and events,
  • managing relevant policies and rules of competition to support interschool sport participation by schools and students,
  • responding to queries from the statewide network of School Sport Victoria Coordinators,
  • coordinating responses to appeals and complaints relating to interschool sport,
  • managing the procurement and workforce coordination to support the delivery of interschool sport, and
  • driving the implementation of key initiatives across interschool sport, including School Sport Victoria Child Safe Officer and Positive Behaviour Rules.

The successful applicant will be required to engage extensively with internal and external stakeholders, including other School Sport Victoria staff, School Sport Victoria Coordinators, state sporting organisations and key teams within the department, to ensure all requirements for interschool competitions and events are delivered. This includes coordinating the booking of facilities, event scheduling, communications and financial management.

This position is a member of the School Sport Victoria management team, which leads the implementation of School Sport Victoria's Strategic Directions 2020 to 2030.

Attributes

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including managing staff within the interschool sport team.
  • Demonstrated experience in program planning and managing budgets alongside delivery of large-scale programs.
  • Proven ability for critical thinking and problem solving, and be able to respond to complaints and deliver improvements to processes and practice.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor degree in Education, Sports Management/Administration or related is desired.

Previous experience in sports administration or school sport is desired.
