THE ROLE

The role has been advertised for experienced IT Communication Technicians to join the team at Ora Banda.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test copper and fibre data cabling.
  • Maintain and clean up comms racks, patch panels, cable trays, and network cabinets.
  • Set up and relocate communications infrastructure for camp expansions, site relocations, and new facilities.
  • Deploy and maintain WiFi infrastructure, Ubiquiti radios, microwave links, and other wireless technologies.
  • Provide hands‑on support during outages or faults in communications and network systems.
  • Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance on communications hardware.
  • Assist with provisioning and maintenance of VHF radios (Motorola).
  • Prepare and maintain IT documentation, asset records and inventory of spares of communication and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with contractors and supervise delivery of scoped comms‑related work.
  • Provide Level 1/2 support to site users where required.
  • Assist with provisioning and setup of workstations, monitors, docking stations, and other user equipment.
  • Support office relocations and desk moves, ensuring IT readiness and connectivity.
  • Support incident response and general troubleshooting in collaboration with IT Technicians.
  • Assist in scoping and delivering infrastructure elements of site‑based IT projects.
  • Participate in infrastructure rollouts, system upgrades, and relocations.
  • Liaise with vendors and third‑party providers where necessary to complete works.
  • Support the broader IT function in achieving OBM’s strategic technology goals.

About You

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Communications cabling certifications (e.g. Open Cabler Registration).
  • Manual driver’s licence (required for site travel).
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience in a similar IT or communications technician role.
  • Experience installing and supporting data cabling and comms infrastructure.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, VLANs, DHCP, routing).
  • Competence with tools and materials for low‑voltage cabling and installation.
  • Willingness and ability to assist with general IT support tasks.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in remote field conditions with a focus on safety.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with multiple stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in ICT or equivalent trade/technical experience.
  • Working at heights & confined spaces.
  • Exposure to mining or remote industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with Ubiquiti, Cisco, or other enterprise networking systems.
  • Familiarity with Motorola VHF communications systems.
  • Experience with CCTV, microwave radio, PTP links or WiFi mesh systems.
  • Support experience with SCADA, radio communications or OT systems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Azure, and Office 365.
  • Exposure to Pronto, Deswik, Surpac, Micromine, or similar mining software.

Awareness of cybersecurity principles and practices.
