Knowledge of finance/production/operations management, quality assurance and control, familiarity/comfortable with using statistical tools o Strategic planning and implementation o Examining and re-engineering operations and procedures o Develop technical, marketing, and financial plans, analyze, and interpret all related data o Knowledge of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting. o Knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices o Excellent leadership, project management and people management o Financial awareness to understand and interpret numbers o Excellent written & verbal communication

forward planning
making policy decisions
budgeting and maintaining accurate financial records
organizing sales and purchases of livestock, farm equipment, crops and agricultural
products
handling paperwork and keeping administrative records
recruiting, training/instructing and supervising farm workers
making sure that work progresses satisfactorily
ensuring compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards
keeping an up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases
ensuring that the farm is profitable and meets projected financial targets
organizing maintenance/repair of farm property, equipment and machinery
advertising and marketing farm products or the work of the farmer.
Variations in workloads relate to seasonal demands – some unsociable hours may be
necessary during busy periods (for e.g. during harvesting) and managers will be
expected to deal with emergencies.
