Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Underwriter to evaluate the creditworthiness of individuals or businesses applying for 3 Wheeler and 4 Wheeler loans or credit facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing risk, analyzing financial data, and making sound lending decisions in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Area of responsibility: Responsible for underwriting and credit risk assessment of 3-Wheeler and 4-Wheeler loan applications, ensuring compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk frameworks while coordinating with business, operations, and risk teams.
  • Key results / outputs and impact on organizational goal: Deliver accurate and timely credit decisions that support business growth while maintaining portfolio quality, minimizing credit losses, improving approval turnaround time, reducing delinquencies, and ensuring a balanced risk-return profile aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Duties of the role: Analyze financial documents, income proofs, bank statements, and credit bureau reports; prepare detailed credit assessment notes; identify risks and mitigants; evaluate cases through LOS systems; and communicate credit decisions clearly to internal stakeholders.
  • Things candidate is expected to do by themselves: Independently evaluate loan applications, conduct comprehensive credit analysis, manage multiple cases within defined TATs, maintain high accuracy in documentation, ensure data confidentiality, and recommend approval or rejection within delegated authority limits.
  • Things they will get guidance / support on? Receive guidance on credit policy interpretation, exception approvals, complex or high-risk cases, system and process training, regulatory updates, and feedback on underwriting quality to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with organizational risk appetite.


Technical Skills:

  • Financial Analysis Tools: Must be Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including advanced functions, pivot tables, Vlook Up, XLook Up and financial modeling).
  • Documentation Tools: Must be Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint / Canva for preparing credit memos and presentations
  • Credit Bureau Platforms: Experience with credit bureau reports and analysis tools (e.g., CIBIL, Equifax, Experian, TransUnion).
  • Underwriting Systems: Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems (LOS), Credit Decision Engines, and Risk Assessment Platforms.
  • CRM Tools: Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management systems is a plus
  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Basic knowledge of BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for credit reporting and dashboards is a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Integrity and a strong sense of responsibility in handling sensitive financial data.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, MBA (Finance) is preferred. Degree in other fields is also acceptable considering candidate having relevant experience


Experience:

  • Min 1 year of experience in credit underwriting, credit analysis, or a related financial role in Banks, NBFC or Fintech.
  • Experience in Vehicle Loan Products is a Plus.

Certifications (good to have):

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, CCRC) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCRA, Basel III, RBI guidelines) and compliance standards
