Our staffing firm is seeking a Laboratory Technician on behalf of a well-run government research laboratory specializing in emergent materials and advanced processing technologies. This position will support a team conducting cutting-edge research in materials development and scale-up for critical material production. The selected candidate will play a key role in setting up laboratory facilities, performing experimental work, and maintaining research equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up laboratory facilities, including connecting equipment to ventilation, electrical power (up to 480V), and water systems.
  • Relocate and organize laboratory casework and other equipment to optimize workspace functionality.
  • Conduct routine experimental operations under established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor, record, and analyze experimental data, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist scientific staff in preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of laboratory work, ensuring compliance with research protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with research and development personnel to support project timelines and deliverables.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities meet safety, security, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related technical or scientific field (e.g., Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or Applied Science).
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in an industrial or research laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to assemble and connect mechanical, electrical (480V or less), and ventilation systems safely and effectively.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and data documentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in experimental work.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving research environment.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, such as moving laboratory equipment and materials.
Additional Information:

  • The work will be performed on-site at the client’s Lemont, IL research facility.
  • The position requires compliance with all government property, security, and computer protection policies.
  • Weekly timesheets and work reports will be submitted to the supervising research group leader.
