Role Summary
The Lab Manager oversees overall laboratory operations, technical activities, quality management, and staff supervision.
The role includes managing equipment, inventory, safety compliance, and documentation while ensuring all lab processes adhere to SOPs and regulatory standards.
As the technical lead and authorised signatory for Clinical Biochemistry and Immunoassay, the Lab Manager ensures accurate test performance, system integrity, and continuous operational excellence across the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all laboratory activities are carried out as per SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Lead the setup, calibration, verification, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and analytical systems.
- Manage inventory of reagents, consumables, and equipment to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Oversee compliance with safety protocols including handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain safety documentation and ensure all lab personnel are trained in safety guidelines.
- Conduct regular internal safety audits and ensure adherence to applicable regulatory standards.
- Supervise and mentor lab technicians, assistants, and scientific staff, ensuring effective team performance.
- Conduct periodic training sessions on procedures, safety practices, new technologies, and quality systems.
- Oversee documentation of test records, quality logs, equipment maintenance, and operational processes.
- Prepare reports on lab performance including safety audits, inventory status, QC records, and equipment upkeep.
- Assist in laboratory budgeting, expense tracking, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Ensure data integrity across all testing processes; support data analysis when required.
- Manage staff performance, conduct evaluations, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Support the Technical and Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Assist the Director – Lab in day-to-day operational smoothness and timely issue escalation.
- Review control and calibration data to ensure equipment accuracy and compliance.
- Periodically review quality and system-related documentation as per defined schedules.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of supplies for specimen testing.
- Prepare and monitor staff duty rosters to ensure seamless 24×7 lab functioning.
- Maintain quality documents and records in line with organisational standards.

Preferred Profile
- 8+ years of experience in diagnostic or scientific operations with team-handling responsibilities.
- Prior experience in NABL-accredited laboratories or high-volume diagnostic setups.
- Strong track record in supervising lab functions, test processing, and QC/QA workflows.
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams (Quality, R&D, etc.).
- Ability to independently manage complex investigations and lead CAPA implementations.
