Opportunity for a Senior Lab Technician to take the next step to Laboratory Manager

The Company

This highly respected geotechnical and environmental consultancy has been operating for over 60 years and employs more than 600 people nationally. They provide specialist expertise across geotechnical engineering, soil testing, environmental services, geophysics and groundwater. With a strong pipeline of work and continued growth in the ACT region, they are now looking to appoint a Lab Manager to support the expansion of their Canberra laboratory based in Hume.

The Role

In this role you will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the Canberra laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and NATA requirements. You will supervise and mentor laboratory staff, oversee quality and safety standards, manage equipment calibration and maintenance, and carry out hands on laboratory and field testing. You will also liaise with clients and internal engineering teams, review NATA endorsed reports, and support the ongoing growth of the lab while embedding Lean 5S principles.

This role would suit an experienced Laboratory Technician ready to step into a leadership position, with strong technical knowledge and the ability to manage and develop a small team.

Duties:
  • Lab Manager - Canberra (Hume ACT)
  • Lead, supervise and mentor laboratory staff
  • Manage daily lab operations in line with ISO/IEC 17025 and NATA standards
  • Conduct hands on laboratory and field testing, analysis and reporting
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Support the growth and continuous improvement of the Canberra laboratory
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Laboratory Technician or similar role
  • NATA accreditation
  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, Diploma or Degree qualification
  • Australian Driver's licence
