Laboratory Technical Officer

The Role

We are seeking to appoint an entry level laboratory technical officer in our Belmont (Perth) workplace drug testing laboratory on a casual basis who will be directly responsible for performing routine sample administration, preparation, and testing. The ideal candidate will be well presented, dedicated and team oriented in a fast‑paced laboratory.

Specific Responsibilities

Receiving and data entry of biological specimens (Urine/Oral Fluid) using laboratory software.

Sorting and batching samples for Immunoassay analyser and subsequent LC/MS analysis.

Using graduated and/or automated pipettes for specimen preparation, preparing working solutions.

General laboratory housekeeping.

Operating Immunoassay analyser, troubleshooting and calibrating laboratory instruments.

Maintaining good laboratory practices, safe working environment and all appropriate accreditations.

Performing all assays and procedures necessary that encompass the AS/NZS4308:2023 and AS/NZS4760:2019 Drugs of Abuse testing.

Ensuring that adequate reagent stock is maintained, and orders are up to date.

Reporting and administrative requirements as agreed by the Chief Scientist.

Degree in Science or Certificate IV or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques.

A quality‑focused individual with an excellent attention to detail.

Ability to prioritise work in order to meet laboratory’s deadlines.

Medium level of computer literacy.

Previous experience in a laboratory, testing with AS/NZS4308 and AS/NZS4760 is desirable but not mandatory.
