Labourer / Apprentice – Custom Home & Site Work

About the Role

This position is for someone who wants more than just a job.

At Southall's Construction Ltd., our Labourers and Apprentices are an important part of delivering high-quality, start-to-finish custom homes and well-run job sites. In addition to carpentry exposure, this role offers the opportunity to learn site services such as excavation, material handling, trucking, and trailering under experienced supervision.

We're looking for individuals who show up with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and who want to build a long-term career in residential construction and site operations.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assisting with all phases of custom home construction, from site prep to finishing
  • Supporting carpenters and site supervisors with layout, material handling, and general carpentry tasks
  • Assisting with excavation support work, including grading prep, pipe handling, backfilling, and site cleanup
  • Learning safe operation practices around excavators, skid steers, trucks, and trailers
  • Assisting with loading, securing, and transporting materials and equipment
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized job site
  • Taking direction, asking questions, and steadily increasing responsibility over time

  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and construction environments
  • Reliability showing up on time and ready to work

Required Tools & Requirements

  • Steel-toed boots
  • Tool belt and basic hand tools (hammer, nail puller, etc.)
  • Valid driver's licence (ability to tow or interest in learning to tow is an asset)
  • Ability to reliably commute to Shawnigan Lake, BC

Experience & Education

  • Previous construction, carpentry, or labour experience is an asset but not mandatory
  • Interest in excavation, trucking, or equipment operation is considered a strong asset
  • Secondary School education preferred
  • English language proficiency required
