Lead Data Scientist

We are looking for an experienced Machine Learning and AI development lead with 15+ years

of expertise in designing, building, and scaling ML and AI systems. This role is ideal for a senior

engineer who can define ML architecture, lead engineering direction, and remain hands-on with

modern LLMs, agentic frameworks, and cloud-native ML platforms.

You will work closely with engineering, product, data, and platform teams to architect and

development end-to-end ML solutions, build high-impact AI capabilities, and ensure our

e-commerce platform remains intelligent, reliable, and scalable.

This is a product development role for the HCL Software Commerce product.

Hands-on development is required in this role. There will be programming tests during

the interview process. The use of AI in these tests will disqualify candidates.

Key Responsibilities

AI Development Lead

● Define the overall architecture for ML systems, model lifecycle, data flows, and AI

platform components.

● Lead technical strategy for LLMs, agentic AI, retrieval systems, vector search, and

production ML deployments.

● Experience in mentoring and providing design assistance, code reviews, etc. is a

mandatory skill.

Hands-On Model Development

● Design, build, and deploy end-to-end machine learning and deep learning models using

Python.

● Lead fine-tuning and training workflows for LLMs, diffusion models, and

transformer-based architectures.

● Implement LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT, and other parameter-efficient tuning methods.

Agentic & LLM-Powered Systems

● Architect and build intelligent systems using modern agentic frameworks (CrewAI,

LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.).

● Design AI solutions for search, recommendations, personalization, ranking, and

operations automation.

● Develop scalable RAG pipelines, vector stores, and retrieval strategies for production

workloads.

● Experience with NVIDIA Cuda frameworks is nice to have.

Data & Pipeline Architecture

● Architect robust data pipelines for feature generation, ML model training, and inference

workflows.

● Ensure consistency, data quality, and governance for ML-ready datasets.

● Partner with data engineering teams to operationalize high-scale batch and streaming

pipelines.

Performance, Scaling & Reliability

● Optimize models for latency, throughput, GPU utilization, and cost efficiency.

● Define SLAs/SLOs for model services and ensure system reliability at production scale.

● Lead troubleshooting, incident analysis, and continuous improvement for AI systems.

Coding, Reviews & Engineering Excellence

● AI driven workflow experience using Copilot, Claude Code, Windsurf, etc. is required.

● Stay hands-on with coding, PoCs, model implementation, and pipeline development.

Conduct design and code reviews; enforce best practices in ML engineering and

software craftsmanship.

Introduce standards for testing, reproducibility, evaluation, and CI/CD for ML.
