Position Summary:
The Lead Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the database design, administration, management and protection of Enterprise databases.? Accountabilities include the research, evaluation, design, creation, performance and tuning, security, backup, restore, support and maintenance of Database Management System technologies at Visy.? You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support database-related needs and ensure the stability and reliability of our data systems.
What are the primary responsibilities of the Role?
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases and related services.
- Perform routine database maintenance, including backups, indexing, and integrity checks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, query optimization, deadlocks, and other performance bottlenecks.
- Implement and maintain database security, including user roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing.
- Create, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
- Monitor and optimize database performance, including resource utilization, memory, disk I/O, and SQL execution plans.
- Design and implement high-availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, Database Mirroring, and Clustering.
- Ensure database backups are performed regularly and that disaster recovery plans are in place and tested.
- Develop and implement database standards, best practices, and naming conventions.
- Collaborate with application development teams to design and optimize database schemas and queries.
- Automate routine administrative tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting languages.
- Apply and manage database patches, updates, and service packs.
- Manage and support SQL Server replication, log shipping, and data migration processes.
- Provide on-call support for production systems, including troubleshooting and resolving incidents.
- Document database configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Experience & Qualifications:
Mandatory (critical for the Role)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA).
- Strong experience with SQL Server versions (e.g., SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019).
- Expertise in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server security, including user authentication, encryption, and auditing.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Clustering, and database mirroring.
- Strong skills in T-SQL programming for stored procedures, functions, triggers, and complex queries.
- Proficiency with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and other monitoring and backup tools.
- Experience in automating tasks using PowerShell or T-SQL scripts.
- Familiarity with ETL processes, data integration, and database migration techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Key Technical Skills:
Skills (Technical, Business, Leadership)
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Server (MCSE, MCSA) or similar database certifications.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server).
- Knowledge of reporting and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, SSRS).
- Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines related to database deployments.
- Experience in managing and supporting SQL Server in virtualized environments.
- Knowledge of other database technologies (e.g., Sybase, Oracle, MySQL and Other Opensource RDBMS
