EHS Lead (Environment, Health & Safety)

HS / Operations / Compliance

Uttar Pradesh (Factories, Industrial, Infrastructure or Project Sites)

Reporting To-Head – EHS / Plant Head / Operations Manager


Role Purpose:

To lead, implement, and maintain the company’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs ensuring full statutory compliance with Indian central and Uttar Pradesh state laws, protect employees, contractors, assets and environment, and promote a proactive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Regulatory Compliance & Legal Duties

1.Legal Register & Compliance Monitoring

Maintain an updated register of applicable EHS Acts, Rules, Codes and State regulations.

Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and maintain records.

Coordinate with statutory inspectors and state authorities for inspections and notices.

2.Interpretation & Implementation of Laws

Ensure operational compliance with central laws such as: • Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020 (effective Nov 21, 2025) (consolidated safety & working condition laws). • Environment Protection Act, 1986 (umbrella environmental law). • Central labour / environment related rules (Air/Water Acts, Hazardous Waste Rules, Chemical rules, etc).

Adhere to Uttar Pradesh Fire & Emergency Services Act/Rules and related fire safety norms under state law.

3.Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Safe Systems

Develop and implement EHS policies, SOPs, permits-to-work, risk assessment procedures and safe work guidelines tailored to applicable legal requirements and business operations.

B. Risk Management & Controls

1.Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)

Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementation of controls across operations.

Ensure timely rectification of unsafe conditions and implement hierarchy of controls.

2.Incident Management

Lead incident/accident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.

Conduct near-miss reporting and trend analysis.

3.Inspections & Audits

Conduct periodic site inspections and internal EHS audits.

Track observations and corrective actions until closure.

C. Environmental Management

1.Environmental Compliance

Ensure environmental permits (CTE/CTO), monitoring (air, water, noise), waste management, hazardous chemicals rules compliance.

Maintain environmental reporting & returns (e-returns under EPA/Rules).

Sustainability Initiatives

Promote energy conservation, waste reduction and environmental protection programs.

D. Emergency Preparedness & Fire Safety

1.Emergency Planning

Prepare emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, drills, mock exercises, first-aid readiness for both manmade and natural disasters.

2.Fire Safety Compliance

Implement fire safety requirements under UP Fire & Emergency Services Act/Rules and coordinate with Fire Authorities.

E. Training & Awareness

Training Programs

Conduct EHS training, inductions, toolbox talks and contractor safety briefings.

Measure training effectiveness and maintain records.

2.Consultation & Communication

Drive EHS communication campaigns, promote safety culture, and engage employees on EHS best practices.

F. Documentation & Reporting

1.Maintain EHS documentation including permits, registers, logs, incident reports, training records, audit records, risk assessments, emergency plans, and compliance returns.

2.Prepare monthly/quarterly EHS performance dashboards for leadership.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or relevant field.

Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor/Implementer/ RLI preferred.

Minimum 5–8 years of relevant EHS experience (industrial/manufacturing/project sites preferred).
