Senior Lead Hydraulic & Mechanical Engineer (HPU Specialist)
Location: Houston, TX (Energy Corridor) Position Type: Full-Time / Lead Technical Role Travel: Occasional travel to site for commissioning and client interface
Role Overview
We are seeking a high-level Senior Lead Engineer with dual expertise in Heavy Mechanical Design and Advanced Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) applications. This role is a "Technical Authority" position, responsible for the design, analysis, and execution of large-scale hydraulic systems used in offshore mooring and heavy load-handling environments. You will lead the engineering lifecycle from conceptual design through to assembly, testing, and final commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
HPU Design & Engineering: Lead the design and specification of complex Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs), including pump selection, manifold design, filtration, and thermal management systems.
System Integration: Integrate hydraulic systems with electrical controls and heavy mechanical assemblies to ensure seamless performance in harsh offshore environments.
Technical Leadership: Act as the lead engineer on multi-million dollar projects, providing technical direction to junior engineers and designers.
Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs meet or exceed regulatory requirements from certifying authorities such as DNV, ABS, and Lloyd’s Register.
Client Interface: Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, translating operational needs into robust engineering specifications and troubleshooting complex system failures.
Core Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
HPU Expertise: Minimum 8+ years of experience specifically focused on Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) design and fluid power applications.
Certification: CFPE (Certified Fluid Power Engineer) or CFPS (Certified Fluid Power Specialist) is highly preferred and considered a key differentiator.
Technical Proficiency: Strong command of hydraulic simulation software and 3D modeling (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) for mechanical assemblies and motor systems.
Industry Knowledge: Proven experience with heavy-load handling equipment, mooring systems, or large-scale marine hydraulic machinery.
Communication: Ability to bridge the gap between complex engineering theory and practical, field-ready solutions for global clients.
