Job Description
Lead UX Designer (Contract, 6 Months)
Product: Maatra (Private Beta)
Location: Remote | India
Designing for moments that matter
Most products today are designed to keep people engaged. Maatra is being designed to help families stay calm when things matter.
We’re building a family-first health platform for India—where health is not managed by individuals, but by families. Our beta users consistently tell us the same thing: “This feels calm. It feels trustworthy.”
This role exists to protect that quality—and deepen it—as we scale.
About Maatra
Maatra ( supports the person in every family who manages health: records, appointments, medications, emergencies, and decisions—often across generations.
Our category has a few hard constraints:
Usage is episodic, not daily
When users need us most, they’re often stressed or overwhelmed
We have to help them pick up exactly where they left off
Trust has to be earned consistently over time, not announced once
Value has to be discovered progressively, without overwhelm Our job is to reduce chaos, not add features.
We are currently in private beta, iterating weekly with real families. Design decisions made now will shape how trust is built for years—and help define a new category: family health infrastructure, not just another health app.
What makes this role interesting
You’ll design for trust, clarity, and emotional safety, not dopamine loops
You’ll work on AI-enabled workflows, where the real challenge is when and how AI should intervene—and when it shouldn’t
You’ll design systems that work across multiple family members, roles, and permissions
You’ll design for resumption and continuity, not just first-time flows
You’ll be shaping a product while it’s still malleable, not polishing something already set
This is a role for someone who enjoys thinking deeply about how people make decisions under uncertainty.
Pace and expectations
We move fast—but not sloppily.
Design decisions are well thought through, but releases are always urgent. You should be comfortable operating in that tension: making careful calls, then shipping and iterating in short cycles.
What you’ll do
Own UX end-to-end for the product—from research to shipped experience
Design mobile-first flows that simplify complex, real-world health workflows
Work closely with founders and engineers to iterate continuously during beta
Design and refine AI-assisted interactions that feel supportive, not intrusive
Maintain coherence across flows, states, and edge cases as the product evolves
Explain and defend design decisions clearly, then adapt them based on feedback
Deliver production-ready designs in Figma and support implementation closely This is a hands-on role. You will be designing, revising, and refining—often in short cycles.
Design systems
We use a component-driven design system in Figma, based on atomic design principles (tokens, variants, linked styles). All dev-facing screens are built using these components.
You should be comfortable:
Working inside an existing system
Extending it thoughtfully
Knowing when not to create new components
Who this is for
You’re likely a fit if you:
Have 5-7 years of product design experience, primarily mobile
Have designed complex or trust-sensitive systems
Care deeply about information architecture and interaction clarity
Are comfortable owning ambiguous problems without waiting for perfect briefs
Can defend your thinking—and change your mind when needed
Are fluent in Figma and modern design systems
Are curious about how AI changes workflows, not just UI Experience with healthcare or AI is a plus—but good judgment matters more.
Why join now
You’ll help define how AI-powered products earn trust, not just attention
You’ll influence foundational UX decisions while the product is still forming
You’ll work directly with founders—no layers, no translation loss
You’ll help build a new category, not just a feature set
If you’re driven by the idea of designing calm systems in noisy, high-stakes domains, this role will stretch you in the right way.
