Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Secure and remove a ship’s dock lines at port. Employee is expected to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Catches and throws heaving lines from ship’s docking.
  • Pulls mooring lines down the dock and secure to bollards and removes mooring lines from bollards.
  • Ability to train and get approval to operate pedestal crane to move cargo and personnel to/from vessel, required at levels 3 & 4. 
  • Performs dock inspections prior to vessel arrival.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Works under close supervision, receives detailed work instructions, and applies basic judgement in resolving routine issues. 
  • Troubleshoots basic problems and identifies deviations from accepted practices.
