Linux Systems Senior Engineer

The primary role of this person is to provide server/network support to office and Client infrastructure. The person should have excellent problem-solving skills for troubleshooting computer, network, software, and hardware issues. The person should have over 5 years of experience in Linux Administration. The person should have good communication skills and should have the desire to learn. This person will report to our IT Director.

Responsibilities:

• Preventive maintenance of servers including OS updates, BIOS updates, antivirus updates and firmware updates, disk clean-ups, defragmentation
• Provisioning Dev/QA/Staging/production Webservers/DB Servers setup and configuration
• Plan and execute Environment cleanup on a regular basis
• Install and configure web servers like but not limited to Apache, Nginx
• Troubleshoot issues as and when they occur and find optimum solutions
• Provisioning of ad-hoc IT systems as per Clients requirements
• Support and administration of office network including but not limited to network switches, APs, firewall, UPS, etc.
• Roll out software updates and patches using software update server
• Monitor server and services using various tools like but not limited to PRTG, CloudWatch
• Monitor and manage server backups regularly and start backups manually when automatic backups fail
• Help Cloud and DevOps team to configure and manage Automation scripts
• Help Cloud and DevOps team to setup and Configure CI/CI Jobs using Jenkins, GitLab etc.
• Setup, configure and manage Docker containers
• Ability to configure network firewall under supervision
• Create local websites on IIS, Nginx, and Apache
• Configure DNS, DHCP under supervision
• Ability to maintain configure and troubleshoot Data center servers and services like AWS EC2 etc.
• Create technical documentation
• Prepare reports as directed by Management
• Review and evaluate new services, tools requested

The ideal candidate for the position should have the following skills and experience:

Technical Skills:

• In-depth experience with Linux OS and related applications
• Hands-on experience in configuring and troubleshooting Linux-based operating systems such as Ubuntu
• Experience in software and network troubleshooting
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, Nginx, etc.
• Good knowledge of Docker and containerized environments
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, TCP/UDP, and IP routing

• Ability to work with people and train others
• Ability to adjust tasks and schedule, and adapt to changing priorities
• Has a strong work ethic, personal accountability and is dependable
• Possesses good communication skills in English, both verbal and written

Education and Work Experience:

• The candidate should have a background in a computer-related field
• The candidate should have over 5 years of experience in System Administration
• A Red Hat or Linux certification is preferred but not required
