Overview

NAES is seeking an experienced Power Plant Maintenance Manager to support operations at a solid-fuel-fired power generation facility in Stockton, California. This role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient execution of all maintenance activities and provides direct leadership to the maintenance organization under the direction of the Assistant Plant Manager. The Maintenance Manager will plan, schedule, and supervise preventive, predictive, corrective, and outage-related maintenance activities across all major plant systems, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise plant maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
  • Own and manage the CMMS work order system, ensuring maintenance activities are properly planned, scheduled, prioritized, and documented.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive, predictive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance for boilers, steam turbines, material handling systems, rolling stock, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Continuously review and improve maintenance processes, procedures, and work practices in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, forecasts, and schedules to optimize cost, quality, outage duration, and plant availability.
  • Investigate equipment failures, operating abnormalities, and forced outages; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and deliver routine maintenance reports, performance metrics, and outage summaries.
  • Coordinate and supervise major equipment overhauls and outage activities performed by internal teams and third-party contractors.
  • Support spare parts inventory planning and materials management aligned with maintenance and reliability needs.
  • Establish departmental goals and performance expectations consistent with plant objectives, contractual requirements, and stakeholder expectations.

Key Project Requirements

  • Proven maintenance leadership experience at a solid-fuel-fired power plant (biomass, wood, coal, or similar), with hands-on responsibility for boilers, steam turbines, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Demonstrated ownership of CMMS-driven maintenance programs, including PM/PdM/CM, backlog management, work prioritization, and outage planning.
  • Ability to lead and coach multi-discipline maintenance teams (mechanical, electrical, I&C) while driving safety, reliability, and cost-effective execution in a regulated plant environment.

Job Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of power plant maintenance practices, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing skilled trades, including mechanics, electricians, and I&C technicians.
  • Solid understanding of steam turbine technology, boilers, hydraulics, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with maintenance budgeting, cost control, and work order accounting.
  • Ability to analyze complex maintenance and reliability issues and direct resolution using structured problem-solving methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and extensive experience with CMMS platforms.

Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 6+ years of supervisory maintenance experience at a solid-fuel-fired power plant; OR
  • Associate degree or industry-recognized technical certificate AND 4+ years of supervisory maintenance experience at a solid-fuel-fired power plant; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline AND 3+ years of supervisory maintenance experience at a solid-fuel-fired power plant.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $80-$85.
