The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director Planning & Development, you will provide strategic leadership for Council’s economic development and visitor economy functions. This role is pivotal in implementing the Moree Plains Economic Development Strategy and strengthening investment and employment outcomes across our Shire.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the implementation of the Moree Plains Economic Development Strategy to drive local economic outcomes.
  • Managing Council’s grants programs, funding agreements, and external funding relationships.
  • Leading business retention, expansion, and attraction initiatives to support local industry.
  • Overseeing visitor economy development, destination marketing, and Central Business District (CBD) activation.
  • Building strategic partnerships with business groups, tourism organisations, industry leaders, and government partners.
  • Providing effective leadership and management of the Economic Development team and associated departmental budgets.
  • Promoting investment opportunities and supporting the development of new enterprises within the Shire.
  • Contributing to Council's Operational Plan and Delivery Program from a whole‑of‑organisation perspective.

The location for this role is the Max Centre in Moree.

About You

You are a customer‑focused and communicative professional with the ability to build high‑performing teams. You possess strong organisational skills and the judgment required to deliver outcomes in a fast‑paced, stakeholder‑driven environment.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Economic Development, Business, Commerce, Economics, Marketing, or Tourism.
  • Significant experience in investment attraction, business growth, or a comparable regional context.
  • Proven leadership and people‑management experience, with the ability to motivate staff and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management and funding programs, including oversight of grants and expenditure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide strategic advice to government and industry stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing or a related business discipline, or professional experience in strategic marketing, brand management, or market analysis.
  • Previous Local Government experience.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Required Tickets, Licences and/or Qualifications

  • Class C Drivers Licence.

Required Clearances and Checks

  • National Criminal History Check.
  • Pre‑employment medical, which may include drug and alcohol testing.
