Overview
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Japan (PhRMA Japan) Office seeks qualified candidates to apply to join the PhRMA Japan team as a Manager.
The Manager is responsible for assisting with project management, communication, and coordination of advocacy strategies. More specifically, the Manager will:
Support key meetings and visits from senior executives: PhRMA Japan holds monthly Board meetings and hosts meetings for visiting PhRMA and member company senior executives throughout the year. We conduct “PhRMA Days” every year, during which the PhRMA Chairman visits Japan and meets with several Japanese government representatives and key opinion leaders. The successful candidate will support these meetings and visits, including drafting briefing memos, doing research on key issues, and drafting notes from key meetings. Support PhRMA Headquarters: The successful candidate will be expected to develop detailed knowledge on assigned areas and will be assigned tasks related to PhRMA Japan’s day-to-day work, especially to respond to requests received from PhRMA HQs, as well as member companies and others.Develop and execute government and public relations strategy: PhRMA Japan has an active advocacy agenda and works with members to set and execute the industry’s government and public relations’ strategies for the market, recognizing and addressing emerging concerns and opportunities. The successful candidate will work with their colleagues in PhRMA Japan, PhRMA HQs, members of the related PhRMA Japan committees, and designated representatives from PhRMA’s government relations and public relations’ contracting firms to develop and execute an outreach strategy to key stakeholders in the Japanese government (including the Diet and Ministries) and the media. Coordinate PhRMA committees and related activities: PhRMA Japan currently manages 16 committees, sub-committees, and Task Forces. The successful candidate will support the work of the designated PhRMA Japan committees. This would entail working with committee chairs/co-chairs to set up the meetings, help develop meeting agendas, attend the meetings, draft summary reports as appropriate, etc. The successful candidate will also actively engage and coordinate communication between relevant committees and related work group members. Collaboratively develop data-driven policy proposals: PhRMA Japan spends a considerable amount of time developing data-driven, persuasive policy proposals to address challenges being faced by the Japanese government in the health care sector. These are presented to the government in various meetings, including PhRMA-MHLW meetings, Kanmin Taiwa meetings, and Chuikyo hearings. The successful candidate will work with their colleagues in PhRMA DC and Japan and members of the related PhRMA Japan committees to help develop presentation and briefing materials, persuasive policy positions, and relevant reports. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be adaptable, able to reprioritize and shift gears quickly, comfortable in a high-pressure environment and be politically savvy, diplomatic, responsive, and mature.
Professional Experience / Requirements
2 to 6 years of relevant experience.Fluency in Japanese and English is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English.Adaptable/flexible and comfortable working in a high-paced international environment.Good at garnering consensus.Proactive, well-organized, creative thinker, and team player. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, health care sector, policy formulation or government relations is desirable. Potential Salary
