Job Summary

:

The Strategic Planning Manager plays a critical role in shaping 3M India’s long-term direction by driving market intelligence, strategic planning, and cross-functional alignment. This role partners closely with business and functional leaders to translate insights into actionable strategies, define measurable goals, and ensure seamless execution across the organization. By integrating resource planning, risk management, and competitive analysis, the role enables informed decision-making and positions 3M for sustainable growth and market leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Industry Intelligence

  • Conduct comprehensive market research, analyze industry trends, and identify opportunities, risks, and emerging threats.

  • Continuously monitor competition—revenue, profitability, market share, product portfolio, new launches, key talent, and facilities (manufacturing/R&D).

  • Provide insights that drive informed decision-making for leadership.

  • Strategy Development & Annual Planning

  • Partner with CBLs, Function Leaders, Division Leaders, and Group Marketing Leaders to co-develop strategic plans aligned with 3M’s vision and long-term priorities.

  • Lead and support the annual Business-Level Strategic Planning process—review prior-year plans, recalibrate assumptions, and redesign strategies in the current business context.

  • Manage the local planning timeline (March–April) to meet global strategic planning calendars.

  • Goal Setting & Performance Tracking

  • Define short-term and long-term goals and translate them into measurable KPIs and success metrics.

  • Build dashboards and performance tracking mechanisms and present progress to the India Leadership Team.

  • Cross-functional Alignment & Integration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure strategic plans are integrated across the organization.

  • Understand resource and CAPEX requirements to enable seamless execution of strategic priorities.

  • Resource & Budget Planning

  • Collaborate with functional leaders to assess resource needs and oversee onboarding activities aligned with the strategic plan.

  • Recommend allocation of resources and budgets to support prioritized initiatives.

  • Risk Identification & Mitigation

  • Identify key business risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful plan execution.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Prepare and deliver strategic updates, reviews, and recommendations to area and global executives, internal teams, and external partners.

  • Create executive-level presentations that clearly articulate insights and strategic direction.

  • External Representation & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Represent 3M at industry forums and external events.

  • Build strong external networks with industry leaders, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders to identify collaboration opportunities and stay ahead of market shifts.

  • Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Strategy, or related field.

  • Experience: Prior experience in strategic planning, business analysis, management consulting, or related strategic roles.

  • Skills:

    Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

    Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills

    Proficiency in strategy frameworks, market analysis tools, and planning software

    Ability to translate insights into actionable strategic recommendations
