Manufacturing Engineer

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Location: Grand Rapids, MI Role Summary: Steelcase is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support 2nd shift operations. The engineer will lead and support manufacturing processes across the product life cycle, drive continuous improvement, and resolve production issues in real-time. Key Responsibilities: Lead the introduction of new products into manufacturing. Improve existing production procedures for productivity and profitability. Provide floor support and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime. Drive process improvements to reduce costs and ergonomic risks. Manage implementation of special projects and corporate initiatives. Contribute to long-term strategic and manufacturing planning. Preferred Skills & Competencies: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing setting. Lean manufacturing knowledge (flow, equipment reliability, setup reduction). Hands-on experience with process modeling, simulation, and value stream mapping. Familiarity with Excel, Access, and project management tools. Ergonomics, occupational biomechanics, and human factors engineering knowledge. Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and negotiation skills. Basic Requirements: 4-year technical degree or equivalent work experience (e.g., 5 years without a degree). Proven ability to troubleshoot and support production in a manufacturing environment.
