We are currently recruiting for an experienced, proactive, and safety‑conscious Civil Float Operator for our Tier 1 client located in the Pilbara.
Roster: 2:2 FIFO (Fly to Site Thursday AM, Off Site Wednesday PM)
Location: Site‑Based, Accommodation and All Meals Provided
Hourly Rate: $55.00 – $65.00
Summary of the Role:
The Civil Float Operator supports the Track Maintenance and Civils teams by safely and efficiently transporting 50t low loaders and expendables between job sites across the client’s rail network. The role involves travelling on private dirt access roads and WA Main Roads between localised townships and client‑owned mine sites in the Pilbara region.
This role requires a high level of experience in operating and securing various types of earthmoving and rail equipment, and rail components in compliance with Western Australian heavy vehicle road transport regulations.
Your Experience
- 5 years of experience operating prime movers with low loader or float trailers.
- 5 years of operational experience driving road ranger prime movers in a variety of terrains.
- Conduct pre‑start inspections and routine maintenance checks on truck and trailer units.
- Safely load, secure and unload machinery using correct load restraint techniques in accordance with WAHVA regulations and company procedures.
- Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately, including trip sheets, logbooks etc.
- Liaise with site personnel to coordinate pick‑ups and deliveries in a timely and professional manner.
- Adhere to all road, traffic, fatigue management, and heavy haulage regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of float truck and equipment.
- Experience with other trailing units such as tippers, water tankers, drop decks etc.
Your Knowledge
- Knowledge of load restraint laws, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), and Western Australian Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Regulations (WAHVA).
- Knowledge of fatigue management legislation and compliance.
- Critical communications with pilot vehicles.
- Sound mechanical knowledge and ability to conduct basic truck maintenance.
- Knowledge of requirements in accordance with over‑mass, oversize and high/wide period permit conditions.
Your Skills
- Understanding and commitment of Health & Safety management methods.
- Team player.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing site demands and schedules.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Familiarity with permit and oversized load requirements within Western Australia.
- Self‑driven, willing to be flexible and demonstrate initiative without supervision.
Your Education, Training & Medical
- Commercial Driver’s Medical vagina (keep exact wording).
- Ability to obtain CAT 2 Rail Medical Licences / Certifications.
- MC Driver’s Licence
- Forklift, Dogging High‑Risk License (desirable)
- Ability to obtain Safe Working Level 2
- MRWA Fatigue Certificate (be willing to obtain; company willing to pay)
Requirements
Must have full rights to work in Australia, a current national police clearance, and will pass a full medical.
