Job Description

Talascend is currently seeking an MCFR Transient Analysis Engineer for a a long-term contract opportunity with our nuclear energy client. This position is 100% remote.

Overview
This role involves transient analysis for the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCFR), focusing on thermal-hydraulic assessments and safety basis support. The ideal candidate has expertise in nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics, particularly non-water-based systems, with a strong understanding of coupled nuclear kinetics and transient analysis methods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform computational analysis of thermal-hydraulic transients at the component and plant-wide levels to support safety analysis.
  • Develop and apply analysis methods ranging from steady-state network hydraulic analysis to transient, three-dimensional component-level calculations.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to integrate transient analysis into reactor simulators.
  • Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) with application to nuclear systems.
  • 3-7 years of experience in nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic analysis and transient safety calculations.
  • Proficiency with nuclear systems codes such as RELAP, SASSYS, GOTHIC, SAM, PRONGHORN, or MELCORE.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear systems fundamentals, including thermal hydraulics, neutronics, and reactor transient behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working on fast-spectrum or molten salt reactor designs, familiarity with nuclear design and regulatory frameworks, and knowledge of risk-informed, performance-based guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors.
