Job Description
Talascend is currently seeking an MCFR Transient Analysis Engineer for a a long-term contract opportunity with our nuclear energy client. This position is 100% remote.
Overview
This role involves transient analysis for the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCFR), focusing on thermal-hydraulic assessments and safety basis support. The ideal candidate has expertise in nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics, particularly non-water-based systems, with a strong understanding of coupled nuclear kinetics and transient analysis methods.
Responsibilities
Perform computational analysis of thermal-hydraulic transients at the component and plant-wide levels to support safety analysis. Develop and apply analysis methods ranging from steady-state network hydraulic analysis to transient, three-dimensional component-level calculations. Collaborate with external vendors to integrate transient analysis into reactor simulators. Requirements
M.S. degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) with application to nuclear systems. 3-7 years of experience in nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic analysis and transient safety calculations. Proficiency with nuclear systems codes such as RELAP, SASSYS, GOTHIC, SAM, PRONGHORN, or MELCORE. Strong knowledge of nuclear systems fundamentals, including thermal hydraulics, neutronics, and reactor transient behavior. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working on fast-spectrum or molten salt reactor designs, familiarity with nuclear design and regulatory frameworks, and knowledge of risk-informed, performance-based guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors.
