As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and play a key role in developing innovative engineering solutions for mining and industrial equipment.

Role Overview:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at IMS Australia, you will be responsible for designing, analysing, and optimising mechanical systems and components used in the mining, heavy equipment, and industrial sectors . You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop custom mechanical solutions , improve existing equipment , and ensure designs meet industry safety and compliance standards .

This role is ideal for a highly technical and detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a problem-solving environment and is passionate about optimising mechanical systems for real-world applications .

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and optimise mechanical components and systems for mining and industrial equipment.
• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications using CAD software.
• Perform structural, stress, and thermal analysis to validate designs.
• Work closely with fabrication, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and serviceable.
• Support failure analysis and root cause investigations to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards, industry regulations, and safety guidelines .
• Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver custom engineering solutions .
• Conduct site visits to assess equipment performance and identify design improvements .
• Assist in the development of technical documentation, manuals, and reports .

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in mining, heavy equipment, or industrial applications .
• Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar) .
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and engineering simulations.
• Knowledge of materials science, welding, and fabrication processes .
• Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems used in mining and industrial equipment.
• Ability to interpret and apply Australian Standards (AS), ISO, and other relevant engineering codes .
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to travel to site locations when required.
• Full working rights in Australia.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and police clearance.
